Oman Cultural Complex

The winning design for Oman’s new cultural Complex in Muscat by Architecture Studio. Architecture-Studio has won the international competition organized by the Sultanate of Oman in order to achieve a new urban centre bringing together the National Archives, the National Library and the Omani National Theatre next to Muscat main gateway. The project will be designed on a 40,000 sqm area. Its estimated budget reaches OMR 40 million. The complex emerges in a unique landscape, between the sea and the mountains, as an oasis made up of palms and mineral columns. The cultural centre is covered by a canopy, which is bent at its western side by the National Theatre. This musharabieh canopy that filters sunbeams is a reference to Omani architecture; in the same way, a trickle crosses covered gardens in reference to falajs.

My final Year Project | Solar Energy Research Center

August 12th, 2008

My SERC Logo

These days I am working on the second stage of my final year project, designing a solar energy research center. The first stage was researching and preparing a report about the project. I still didn’t start in the design phase!!!! I am reading into research laboratories these days to understand the extensive mechanical needs of a research facility. When I understand the mechanical insulations that laboratories need I will start in the conceptual design. If anyone reading this knows any information that can help me in my project :) Don’t hesitate to send them to me.

I will be posting all of the progress in the project in this blog, so stay tuned.

> What do you think of the logo that I designed for the Project?

RAK Gateway Project | Snøhetta

RAK Gateway by Snøhetta

These are some new images released by Norwegian architects Snøhetta for Ras Al-Khaimah Gateway Project (United Arab Emirates). This project is set to be as a landmark for Ras Al-Khaimah, and it will be the entrance to the newly planned capital city of Ras Al Khaimah which is being planned by OMA.

“The architectural expression for our proposal is inspired by the surrounding desert and mountain landscape. This concept provides for an infinite variety of naturally shaded, intimate and protected spaces, around which the multiple uses associated with the development are woven. The undulating architectural landscape is resolved in a dramatic landmark tower marking the main gateway plaza. This 200 m high tower will be the setting for a 5 star plus hotel affording panoramic views across the emirate, to the gulf and mountains beyond.” from Snøhetta.
The buildings will be clad in ceramic which will be developed with Ras Al Khaimah ceramics.
